The Ex-Or MLS Digital
Managed
Lighting System

The Ex-Or MLS Digital Managed Lighting System has been designed to provide optimum lighting conditions and maximum flexibility for office lighting projects of any size.

The Ex-Or MLS Digital offers considerably more benefits than stand-alone lighting control options and time-of-day lighting management systems. It can provide a fully integrated lighting and lighting management scheme far more effectively than similar specification luminaires driven by a conventional time-of-day lighting management system.

The enhanced performance of the system is made possible by using communicating presence detectors. Information on the current state of occupancy within the building runs through the low voltage bus network. Physical barriers such as walls and partitions do not impede this process.

Communication
MLS Digital Detectors communicate occupancy information throughout a building via a low voltage dedicated bus. This ability makes many of the unique features possible.

Setting-up zones of detectors
MLS Digital Detectors may be set-up to switch luminaires in groups over nominated work zones. These zones may be easily re-configured without alteration to hard wiring.

Operation of zones of detectors
Presence detected anywhere within the zone ensures all the luminaires in the group remain on.

Operation of common zones
Notional corridors and safety routes may be configured as common zones which are held on together when there is activity elsewhere on the bus.

Photocell control
Luminaires with regulating ballasts compensate for daylight automatically to ensure a constant lighting level on the working plane.

MLS Digital introduces unique features never before seen in a lighting management system of this kind:

Scene-setting
Users can set up to six lighting scenes by infrared remote control and recall them with a single press of a button.

Entry and exit scenes
The entry scene is automatically selected when the area becomes occupied. Similarly, there is an option to select an exit scene for when an area is vacated.

Group dimming
Groups of luminaires may be brightened, dimmed and switched on/off by remote control.

Global zones
By assigning the MLS Digital Detector to one of two global zones it can be activated from a single position which would be beneficial for security and when load shedding may be necessary.

Ballast compatibility
MLS Digital is suitable for both DALI and DSI ballasts.

FailSafe
Emergency Testing Systems

Testing of emergency lighting installations can be a time consuming and expensive process. Engineers have been required to manually place luminaires on test and record the test results in a logbook for inspection by the authorities. The cost associated with such a process will vary depending on the type of site and the number of luminaires to be tested, but estimates of £50 per year per luminaire have been suggested and it is easy to see how this figure can be justified.

FailSafe Emergency Lighting Testing Systems offer two solutions.

FailSafe Solo is a self-contained stand-alone solution ideal for smaller installations. The testing regime commences automatically when power is applied to the emergency luminaire with a 24-hour test-delay option, which prevents all luminaires discharging together. The status of the luminaires is continuously monitored and any faulty luminaires are identified by an integral flashing fault indictor.

FailSafe Addressable uses a dedicated Control Panel or standard PC and requires no human intervention unless a fault is identified. The Control Panel monitors the testing and provides a Log Book record. The PC version offers more options including the ability to override the automatic testing regime and schedule the day and time of tests to suit the installation. FailSafe Addressable also offers the option of off-site monitoring via a simple modem link.

FailSafe Emergency Lighting Testing Systems carry out two tests:
Function Test - the functions of the luminaire and components are tested.
Duration Test - the luminaire illuminates for the full time period in emergency mode. In addition FailSafe Addressable provides feedback regarding the integrity of the communication bus.

FailSafe Emergency Testing Systems are designed to meet or exceed all current legislative requirements for the testing of emergency lighting.

LightSpot
Presence Detection Systems

LightSpot presence detectors respond to the movements that occur when an area is occupied. Personnel entering a controlled area automatically activate the lighting and subsequently sustain it by even the smallest movements they make as they go about their normal activity. When they leave, the lights automatically switch off, and will come on again only when the area is occupied once more.

LightSpot detectors incorporate both an adjustable off delay and photocell which should be set to suit local conditions. The photocell may hold lights off or, when used with suitable ballasts, allow the luminaires to dim and brighten according to the level of natural light.

Bronze LightSpot - range 6 metres diameter
Silver LightSpot - range 6 metres diameter
Gold LightSpot - range 7 metres diameter
Standard LightSpot - range 6 - 13 metres
Mid Range LightSpot - range 20 metres
Long Range LightSpot - range 15, 30 & 60 metres

LightSpot Luminaire Controllers are available for integration into luminaires.

A range of LightSpot Photocells is also available for use in internal areas benefiting from good levels of natural light.

SceneSelect II
Scene-setting and Dimming System

SceneSelect II allows the user to create and recall custom pre-set scenes. Once the lighting is set up in the area for an activity, the combination of lighting levels is saved as a pre-set scene and the user can fade between different pre-sets at the touch of a button. It can be used to control all types of lighting: fluorescent, low voltage and mains voltage.

Benefits include:

Flexibility in design – when the layout or usage of an area changes, the system is simply reprogrammed to suit the new requirements.

Increased lamp life – ‘soft start’ and surge limiting voltage regulation technologies protect lamps from high inrush currents and power surges thus dramatically increasing lamp life.

Energy savings – lighting can be adjusted according to ambient light levels or turned off when areas are not in use.

Ease of installation and configuration – SceneSelect II is easier to install and takes less time to configure than conventional wiring systems.

LooSpot
Washroom Management Systems

LooSpot washroom management systems are designed to control automatic flushing cisterns in gents toilets; they operate in a similar way to LightSpot controls. When a visitor enters the toilet area, the system activates a valve in the cistern inlet pipe. This releases water into the cistern, which will then flush when full in the usual way.

When using either of the two mains-operated LooSpot controls, the lighting and/or fan may also be included in the control system. When the toilet is vacated, the cisterns provide a final flush, the valve closes (and the lights and/or fan switch off) until the next visitor enters. With the Battery Series, only water may be controlled.

To ensure that hygiene is not compromised during extended periods of non-occupancy, automatic flushing occurs once daily.
